NERDS ASSEMBLE!!! Aliens, comics, apes and robots, 2011 is gonna be a goooood year! The guys over at totalfim.com have made a list of 49 movies to look out for during 2011, and here's some of my favourite picks from the bunch:
January:
127 Hours: James Franco stars as the thrill seeker who gets pinned under a rock.....and has to cut his arm off, in this gruesome true story from director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire.....yeah, I know....quite the change).
The Green Hornet: Seth Rogen takes on Super-Hero image as the 1930s radio and film series crime fighter, The Green Hornet. With an unlimited supply of money and kickass gadgets, this looks to be Batman with a bit of comedy and a side-kick.
February:
Paul: (I promise I'll try to stop going on and on about this film). February 18th....keep it free! Nick Frost and Simon Pegg return as a pair to the big screen once again!!! In an aptly named movie title, the two play British comic-nerds on a road trip across America.... and bump into an unexpected visitor who goes by the name of Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen). Cannot. Wait.
March:
World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles: Aliens invade and Los Angeles is the battle ground.....pretty much in the title. To be honest I'm not getting my hopes up for this one. The Strause Brothers pulled a Mark Zuckerberg (Social Network joke....no?) and decided to drop this to make Skyline (Shiteline, Tripeline, WHY-line?! All work just as good). So if even THEY pulled out, I can't imagine it being amazing.
April:
The Thing: Not a remake but a prequel! This one shows the events right up to where Carpenter's 1982 classic starts.....could be interesting?? Doubt it, but I'll still watch it!
Thor: Another Marvel comic being turned into a movie? You'd swear they were building up to something huge in 2012 where all the Marvel super-heroes come together in one movie.....more on that later ;). Til then....we have Thor! An extra-terrestial banished to Earth, and protects it from his own species invasion.Nuff said!
Scream 4: Or Scre4m as it was initially marketed....a re-union of the old cast but with a new generation of victims. Wes Craven returns on the other side of the camera. Worth a watch anyways!
May:
Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides: Hmmm....I thought they had finished with these? Oh there's still money to be made from it, silly me! This time round it's just Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow, no Will Turner or Elizabeth Turner....feels more like a spin-off then an actual sequel!
June:
X-Men: First Class: Another prequel! X-Men, the early years with James McAvoy playing good old Xavier.
Green Latern: Another comic adaption? DC's turn this time. Ryan Reynolds plays the first human recruit to a bunch of supervillian fighting aliens known as The Green Laterns. Shweeeet!
Rise Of The Apes: As a Planet Of The Apes fan (the Tim Burton remake never happened, leave me in my bubble), I'm actually pretty excited by this one! Being hailed as a prequel, but has elements of the later Apes movies, it seems a short of mashup of remake and prequel! Downside has to be the loss of the monkey prostectics that make the Ape movies so brilliant...however, hiring Andy Serkis (Gollum from LOTR) for mo-cap, may be a good move! James Franco stars...seems a busy year for him!
Tranformers: Dark Of The Moon: Threequel blockbuster, has no relation to Pink Flyod! It'll get the crowds in as it has before. Transforming-robots fighting, what else would you want? Megan Fox won't be in this one (which I think is a plus, still don't see the appeal in her). A new love interest for Shia LaBeouf's Sam so!
Super 8: As if June wasn't set as amazing as it is, Super 8 is also going to hit screens. J.J. Abrams and Spielberg?! Nothing of a plot has even surfaced........we have a trailer.....it mentions area 51, has a train crash and something banging the train door open! There is no way in hell this can be a let-down!
July:
Harry Potter: The very very last one.....yada yada yada
Cars 2: Yeah, Pixar sequel.....can think of other, more deserving Pixar sequels, but word is, Monsters Inc. 2 is on it's way! So this'll do til then! McQueen and Mater are back! The pre-feature short that accompanys every Pixar movie is rumoured to be a Toy Story spin-off!!! OOOOOO!!!
Captain America: The First Avenger: We get our introduction to The Avengers (Marvels league of Superheroes - mentioned in Thor above!). This movie focuses on the creation of Nazi-asskicker Captain America, played by Chris Evans (Fantasic Four - but I think we're just meant to ignore that).
August:
Cowboys and Aliens: Yeah, you heard it exactly right. It's another comic-book adaption. John Favreau (Vince Vaughan's best friend and also directs Iron Man) directs this Sci-Fi Western about Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford fending off against an alien invasion in the old west!
September:
Real Steel: Robots boxing with Hugh Jackman as a trainer? Yeah ok.
October:
Contagion: In an Outbreak style plot, scientists must try contain a spreading disease and find a cure. Matt Damon, Kate Winselt, Jude Law and Gweneth Paltrow will be starring.
The Adventures Of Tin Tin: Secret Of The Unicorn: Don't laugh! Spielberg and Jackson working on a movie with Nick Frost, Simon Pegg (the dastardly duo) and Andy Serkis (Rise of the Apes?!)? Well surely it must be a hard-hitting fantasy sci-fi! No? Tin Tin? Unicorn? Don't call you Shirley?? I laughed when I first heard this....but it's real....and in 3D! KEWL!
November:
Nothing much on the cards here but I'll update when I hear!
December:
Mission: Impossible 4: The Incredibles Brad Bird is directing Tom Cruise as Ethan in a role not dissimalar from all the other ones....
Obviouslhere is going to be a lot more movies on their way in 2011, but these are the highlights for me so far! Until next time!

Apologies For Not Blogging.
Didn't sleep a wink last night and needed something to take my mind off things....so I scoured the net for film news.....and I found a LOT.
News:
1. The Hangover 2 is in full production...and it's going to be set in Thailand! (Ladyboys anyone?!) At first I was a bit sceptical about this one but it seems Todd Phillips will make this an even funnier one then the first. With cameos from actors like Mel Gibson, Robert Downing Jr., Liam Neeson, Paul Giamatti AND, wait for it, former U.S. president Bill Clinton! I honestly don't see this failing!
2. Paul finally got it's first trailer. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are on top form once again it seems with this nerd-fest of a comedy. Two comicbook nerds driving across America with an alien they met outside Area 51....seriously, it's like they're making it for me! I'm sure the whole name thing was just a coincidence. It's set to hit cinemas February and I for one cannot wait. Anyone fancy anything from the shops? Cornetto perhaps? Check out the trailer below:
3. Batman 3 has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. I can't help but feel the title is an effort to remind people of how much they liked The Dark Knight....so they should see this. Luckily there'll be no "3D" at the end of this title, as it seems nearly every threequel nowadays has to take advantage of it's third installment with this (Jackass 3D to name but one, in it's defense it worked though....). In other DKR news, Tom Hardy has been cast. So who will he play? Back story time...as you may or may not know, Batman Begins was influenced by Frank Millar's graphic novel Batman: Year One. To a certain extent so was The Dark Knight....so if I had to guess, I'd say Doug Moench's unofficial follow-up Prey will be the influence for the final installment. It's just got Nolan written all over it! Back to Hardy. Prey doesn't feature your convectional Batman villians...so this may pose a problem for Batfans. However, a cop who hates costumed vigilantes being hypnotised into becoming one himself by a Batman-obsessed doctor? I see nothing going wrong here. There is also set to be a new love interest (will Bat finally get the girl?) and a female villian! Perhaps, Nolan will go for a more mainstream Bat villain for this role. With so many rumoured actresses going for each role, it's anyones guess who'll get what!! In Nolan we trust!
4. Like The Muppets? No? Tough! Yes? Well the Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made is on it's way, and the cast is already shaping up. Get ready for it *takes a breath* Jason Segel (HIMYM, Forgetting Sarah Marshell), Amy Adams (Catch Me If You Can), Hangover boys Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, Paul Rudd (I Love You Man), Danny Trejo (Machete), Eric Stonestreet (Modren Family), John Krasinski (Jim from The Office), Jane Lynch (Coach Beast from Glee), Jack Black (Tenacious D), Donald Glover (Mystery Team) and....Lady GaGa (Female singer with penis). Gonna be epic.
5. Spider Man gets the Reboot! Sony are no longer looking at Spidey 4, but rather back to origins! Andrew Garfield is going to be the new webslinger. He was good in The Social Network and I'm sure he'll be fine in this, however I'm still unconvinced by the whole idea. Uncle Ben and Aunt May have also been cast, in the form of Martin Sheen (studied here) and Sally Field (Forrest Gump). The villian will be The Lizard and he'll be played by Rhys Ifans (Little Nicky). As for the love interest? Bye bye Mary Jane, hello Gwen Stacy! It seems MJ won't be making an appearance (in this one) because director Marc Webb wants to change the story already set in the original that's not even 10 years old! Emma Stone (Super Bad) has signed on to play the object of affection. I just don't see a re-make working, the last Spiderman film was 3 years ago and the whole franchise built up is just too fresh in peoples minds!
Reviews:
As I've seen nearly every film in the cinema in the past week, I won't review them all but here's a short one sentenece review for some:
The Social Network - Awesome story...but about half an hour too long, it dragged a bit.
Paranormal Activity 2 - Scary, good tie-in with 1 and full of jumps but you'll sleep more then you did after the first one.
Jackass 3D - Hilariously revolting with the best use of 3D ever (like a Sony ad but gross), not for the squeamish.
Due Date - New Todd Phillips comedy, funny but not as funny as expected.
Don't shoot me because of my opinions!
That's all for now! Back to reality...
